385436 2005-09-06 01:07:00 Why is it that the police are not catching everybody who uses P2P files? I suppose they are able to detect the IP of every P2P users? And they are able to determine the exact location based on their respective, don't they? They can assume vague location, however they have no idea if the box being used is offshore and being used remotely.

After they have the IP address, they then need to take it back to the ISP and get a warrant to obtain information pertaining to which user was using which address at which time.

The time and effort is just staggering, the Police have got much bigger fish to fry.

There are also well maintained blacklists avaialble to block out IP's of known government agencies etc.

I've been using it for almost a year and it's a very good app. They also admin blocklist.org (http://blocklist.org/), although I'm unsure of it's function. sal (67)
