| 387100 | 2005-09-11 08:39:00 | And therein lies the story . He was an old pal of George W . The art of cronyism rather than the much lauded meritocracy of the US . Tax cuts and insufficient Civil Defense . Same old, same ol' . You are right . I suspect George Bush's presidency will come under more pressure because of Hurricane Katrina than the war in Iraq . It will be interesting to see what support he has in the next round of polls . Bush didn't even end his holiday which has to be a major mis-read of the public expectations . I'm normally a supporter of George but he has dropped the ball this time . :o Netchicken posted: If thats all you want to read into it then go right ahead . I admit I did have my doubts at the suitablitly of posting the link here owing to the difference in the interest groups . But I thought it couldn't hurt . Guess I was wrong . Not at all . Post away and no offence intended . The more information the better . It just seemed that you accepted the linked report as gospel . However the replies on the link clearly showed that other people didn't nescessarily agree . |

| 387104 | 2005-09-12 21:49:00 | . . . back from fishing now . . . . There is an interesting slant to the fact that GB hasn't fired or allowed the tendering of a resignation from the director of FEMA . . WHY? If he is fired or allowed to quit, he cannot be brought up on insubordination of dereliction of duties charges . anyway . . . here's another (funny! . . . might be the wrong word here) insight to the whole thing . . . . . (sorry for the copy/paste, it is deeply embedded in a forum and not linkable easily . . . . ) We're a disaster agency called F . E . M . A . ; of course we use IE . There are lots of things to mourn on the Gulf Coast . Foremost, of course, is the loss of human life, homes and the dignity of those who live there . And then, there's Apple's market share . Found over on MacinTouch, this note from reader Gary Mullins: My 90-year old mother sat out Katrina in her brother's home next door in Diamondhead, MS, about eight miles from the Mississippi coast where the hurricane's eye hit . They survived without injury but with massive destruction to their homes, and my mother has lost most of her possessions . I brought her to my home in California yesterday and this morning went to the FEMA website to register to start the assistance process . To my dismay, our Federal emergency agency requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, and only IE 6, to use the website for disaster assistance . I don't want to be political about this, but this smacks of a serious leadership failure that the use of the Internet is reserved for only the Windows community . I will reserve my opinion of the administration for the op-ed pages, but I want to vent my dismay about this to the rest of the Mac community . I hope other Mac users let their political reps, newspapers and other media know of this marginalization . Mullins is right . From FEMA's disaster aid Web site: "In order to use this site, you must have JavaScript Enabled and Internet Explorer version 6 . Download it from Microsoft or call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) to register . " |

| 387105 | 2005-09-15 00:55:00 | Is it true that a US president is only allowed to serve two terms?. If thats the case then i dont think GW will give a toss about what the polls will say or the voters. He'll be doing all he can to serve his and his mates intrests in the time he has left. Just my two cents worth.... |

| 387106 | 2005-09-15 02:00:00 | Good editorial in the Southland Times which compares the similarity of treatment between Bagdad and New Orleans . "Remember that promptly after the invasion, United States troops put a ring of steel, fully 50 tanks, around the Iraqi oil ministry building and then watched, inert and passive, while all around them fell into chaos . People killed one another to settle old scores, looted stores and museums and ransacked Government buildings whose contents and records were important for any stable, functioning society to continue . Only when the criticism from the rest of the world became especially pointed did the invaders sorry, liberators start to police the country over which they had assumed nominal control . Those Iraqis dismayed at the way the US presided over the descent into bedlam must now be reassuring themselves that at least it was nothing personal . US officials have shown pretty much the same indolence and neglect of the human suffering among many of their own citizens in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina . | 387108 | 2005-09-25 04:59:00 | They (the Democrats) are trying to get Hillary a ticket to the next elections here in the US . . . 2008 . Remember Hillary? She was the woman who waited at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with a candle holder in the window when her "Lil' Bill" was out trolloping around or had a trollop under the white house desk . She used the same candle holder during all the years he was Governor too . ` My bad! :D |
