669102 2008-05-13 22:08:00 Yello, I was wondering if some of you learned members could cast a critical eye over a web page for me please?
http://nzringtones.co.nz/
TIA

669103 2008-05-13 22:27:00 a few spelling errors e.g. computor in your page several times :)

p>Save the files to your computor and transfer with bluetooth, infra-red device or data cable. The wav files can be used on your computor to customize the sounds in your system.

Page is pretty basic but its not full of ads which is good, just needs a little polish and you should be good to go.

669104 2008-05-13 23:06:00 The text is a bit bold, and perhaps add a header/main image (look for free ones or make/take your own). Maybe add a menu or link bar (with say links to your profile/company - i.e. about us link) along the top. I think you should give a brief description of the native birds (probably get info on a NZ Govt. site).

Maybe add links and images to the bird names to describe them, as overseas visitors might want to know. Visit other NZ similar sites for ring tones and birds to get ideas for layout, relevant links, etc. I would use Google Analytics or webmaster tools to track stats - such as visitor source, no. of hits, keywords used, etc. This will help you target and optimize where you are getting most of your visits.

From my own experience, for most new sites you need to actively promote it (add links in forums, comments on similar sites, add to directories/search engines - anywhere to leave a link) to attract reasonable numbers of visitors and to get them to come back...and to buy. 669105 2008-05-14 02:01:00 I would change your title section

From

Home

to something like

NZ Ring Tones - Home

for the main section
I would also drop the size of the font and put the red text euther in it's own paragraph or in italics

669106 2008-05-14 02:17:00 Thanks for the tips, they're most helpful.
Left the page pretty basic as a lot of sites are a bit overwhelming

669107 2008-05-14 02:32:00 Smaller font - it feels like I am reading a primer grade book with large printing. Background colour is rather bright, especially with the red font colour - it looks garish at present.

Adjust the table column widths to enable the description to fit on one line. This will tidy up the different row heights.

669108 2008-05-14 06:39:00 In a (layman's) word: Amateurish.

Take the experts' advice.

Cheers

669109 2008-05-14 06:45:00 Just grab a template you like and work off that.

IMO websites are made quicker and more professionally than doing one yourself, as most of the fiddly stuff is done for you.

There are THOUSANDS of free HTML templates on the web :)

669110 2008-05-14 06:45:00 I'd suggest stabbing it, setting it on fire, encasing it in concrete, then dropping it into an under water volcano. Metla (12)
669111 2008-05-14 07:40:00 Blue background is really 90s amateur use a font like Arial

really fast mock-up

Use greens as you are advertising a NZ "Nature" type product
