| 669731 | 2008-05-15 09:46:00 | I downloaded the Ubuntu 8.04 .iso file, burnt it to CD with Nero. Ubuntu ran from the Live CD, no problem. Then did a full install on two desktops, one dual-booting with XP Pro. Again no problems, everything, including network and print sharing with Windows worked just fine. Then I found that the download also included Wubi (I had only used the CD to boot from at this stage), so I decided to install Wubi on my Asus laptop and self-built desktop and run Ubuntu from Windows (why? because you can...). In both cases, installation began properly. At the end of the 'creating image' stage, as the progress bar hit 100% an error message popped up saying 'unable to contact CD. Check no other program is using the CD and try again.' (Or words to that effect). 'Trying again' resulted in the image-building process to start from the beginning with exactly the same result. This happened on two different machines, with internal and external CD drives. Both machines run Windows XP Pro SP3, and both have about 90GB spare HD space. Has anyone else had a similar experience, or do I just have a duff CD? |
