appears in web logs

I thought arpanet died out in the 80s, but I had it appear in my weblogs

strange looking i/p as well

cut out part of the ip address (domain name bit was a .co.nz ), and was redirected to this very up to date site

hnpl.net (go to the home page)

So the question is Who out there is using Arpanet (I thought it was a government thing),

Thanks in advance

Thanks in advanceI only know of arpanet as a vague reference to the pre-history of the internet that I read somewhere once. However the website you pointed us at is the (very old) homepage of my ISP. their new one is at http://www.satlan.com I was planning on ringing them later today anyway so I'll ask them about it :)

388000 2005-09-13 06:55:00 I'd never heard of satlan and i am from Hamilton originally (well until 4 years ago) plus a few years in the UK

I was just suprised at the arpanet thing as It was as you said the pre-history of the internet

but well you learn something new everyday

388002 2006-05-20 14:26:00 Hiya

I found Arpanet on my web stats as well, does anyone know of any arpanet specific search engines (if they exist) The person who wanted to see a screenshot of the arpanet can visit:

388003 2006-05-20 15:47:00 It's a special domain used for DNS purposes. It isn't used like a normal domain. I guess your webservers have misinterpreted it, or it is being spoofed or it cannot be mapped or whatever, and are reporting it as "old style arpanet". vinref (6194)

388005 2006-05-24 18:57:00 I wouldnt say thats quite cleared up yet.... attached is a copy of my server logs for http://www.mltek.co.uk for the last few days, check out the second entry from bottom..

Apparently in the dawn of the internet arpanet was split off from the normal internet (at that time just a bunch of universities hooked together) and reserved for military applications (the whole reason the internet and TCP came around was to provide a robust computer network that could withstand a nuclear war).

hmm conspiricy theory anyone?
