387815 2005-09-12 08:02:00 A-Data and Transcend seem okay as brands.

You want to make sure you get proper USB 2.0 ones these days.

Watch out for:

- Computers with incorrectly wired USB ports that can fry them
- Computers with dead USB ports
- The filesystem on the USB drive going bad, always have a backup
- Poor warranties

387816 2005-09-12 09:39:00 I'd avoid RunDisk like the plague. (Mine didnt last a week)

My son and I both have 256 Mb RunDisks and they are fine. Have had them for about 6 months or more. SuperCheap Computers, about $35. Yeah, I know I know (about SuperCheap - if you dont know then do a search here on PF1).

+++ Remember to unplug USB mem sticks only after right (or left) clicking the icon in the system tray and closing down.

Mine went broke through physical fault. Eventually I had to actually raise the stick a little to let the contacts connect...

387819 2005-09-12 21:50:00 Ive had three RunDisks, all were great!

One was 128MB, and I lost the sucker after about 3 months. Bought it a little over a year back
One was a 256MB USB1 drive, My dad is still the proud owner of it and has no issues for its approx 9-10 months lifespan
My current one is a USB2.0 256MB drive, I probably got it about 4-5 months back and its still alive and ticking!

Not bad considering ive picked them up for nice and cheap from SuperCheapPC or Qmb each time

387821 2005-09-13 00:33:00 My last one died when I left it plugged into a comp, and then removed and replaced the USB drivers.... Metla (12)
387822 2005-09-13 01:51:00 I've had one of these (www.pbtech.co.nz) Samsung 1GB sticks for several months without a problem.

I use it to transport files to customers machines so it gets plugged in and out of all sorts of systems. Its never failed to work.

387823 2005-09-14 10:23:00 Rundisk = Rubbish. However - my 1.0 Gb A-Data USB FlashDrive is still going strong - see pricespy for places to buy. Twelvevolts (5457)
