387928 2005-09-12 12:27:00 EBay, the online auction site, has bought Skype, the privately owned internet telephony company, for $2.6 billion in up-front cash.

Skype may change...

387929 2005-09-12 13:14:00 The company was only started in 2002, and the owners are onto $2.6b already!

Hope it spreads like wildfire even more, and kill off w@nkers like Telstra and Telecom.

387930 2005-09-12 13:38:00 Ebay will ream it.

Expect fees galore and adverts injected at the start, finish and at timed intervals though the communication.

If Telecoms worldwide weren't price-gouging so much, stuff like Skype would be small fry or non-existent. When I signed up with my ISP, the customer services person told me to use Skype and calling cards, not their calling plans because they were a rip-off. He knew it, they knew it.

Still works only with the Google client (the talking bit, that is). Not available on Linux or *BSD - strange that Google runs almost entirely on (Slackware) Linux, and promotes *BSD and other open source heavily...
