and

What can we do about this as a solution.

They turn into zonked out morons
Thehy breed more morons
They get fat or starve to death

Have some big island in the middle of the ocean, all teenagers get sent there (suitably fitted with a 5 year contraceptive) and left to fight it out until they become human and are allowed back into society.

389624 2005-09-23 10:16:00 Adults have exactly the same disorders as teens,
so why not research the adults first,
and then the teens afterwards.
By doing this, you won't be showing any untoward bias towards the teens.

389625 2005-09-23 20:28:00 Eating disorders? They are mostly in the mind. But a contributor is the *average* unhealthy diet. Have a look into the long-term effects of a high fat, high sugar, high carbohydrate & high protein diet. This is what teenagers eat - it's not a disorder in itself but the results of such a diet can lead to disorders. Don't get me started on the types of food available at school tuck shops or the queues of school kids in the fast food restaurants at 3.30pm each day. A healthy diet is one of the corner stones of a healthy mind and body.

Why school kids are meddling in drugs beats me - have they fallen victim to the 'first one is free' trap? Normally I would say let nature take it's course but unfortunately these drop-outs breed before it's too late. Are they taking drugs out of boredom? Have the entertainment and instant gratification sights been set so high, that the only thing left are the traditional vices of adulthood? The long-term effects on the body, not to mention the mind are really damaging but kids don't want to hear that sort of message when they are young and invincible. Not forgetting other types of drugs - I'll bet Flo Jo would rather be with her family right now rather than 6 feet under with her gold medals.....

Just my thoughts

O goody.. an open question! :p

Drugs: Firstly lets note that the most commonly used drugs in our society are Tabbaco, alcohol, and coffee. These also do the most damage, cause the most crime, etc etc.

The crime from junkies is caused by a lack of supply causing high prices, and the junkies "need" will usually override food etc, hence the continual thieving. Putting a suitable amount of ajax in the methodone supply would fix this problem. Most junkies are allready dead, so this would be a mercy killing.

People will generally dabble as an expererment or because thier mates are - ("come on mate, have a drink with us, what are ya?") or because they don't like life and/or themselves.

Sex: Can lead to unwanted relationships, not allways a good thing. Be very careful who you breed with! Also, it pays to pick your partner well unless you want to be familiar with the layout of your local clap clinic. - Just me speaking from my own mistakes in life. Actually, after my last one, i can't really be bothered with any of it, allthough 2 of my ex lovers are 2 of my best and probably life long friends :)

Rock&Roll That wasn't part of the question was it? Good stuff though... whatever it is.

Eating disorders I'm with Metla on this one! Ban womans magazines! Every page seems loaded with messages that tell females how ugly they are, and how the right makeup, perfume, bra, anti-pimple goo, status symbols, pointless tests and DIET might be able to hide that. They have a level of degragation far in excess of anything a good old fasioned bikermole mag (as hated by many feminists) will ever have. Its just less sleazy and more direct.

People will starve themselves for vanity, and many of us eat for comfort or boredom - i'm guilty of that hence a good reserve of fat around the belle dispite having a physical job :)

389627 2005-09-24 03:17:00 A woman that reads a magazines and decides they need to look the same as the people in the magazines is as worthwhile to society as the people that watch a movie (or play a game) then go out and shoot someone. Or read an article on daterape and go and take up this particular activity. There is no way to stop stupid people doing stupid things, I really wish there was a way though.

If you have a look around the internet you can find some views from people that ARE suffering the disorders that have been mentioned. www.miirage.com is one site, http: is another with more information.

Looks like a very good idea. But why not start with politicians? It would be cheaper because there are fewer of them, and have much better results because they do more damage. In fact, why let them back at all?

Sorry dude, but these mags tend to pay thier bills with advertising money from the vanity industry, It is thier function to appeal to women, and sell whatever concept can be sold to bring her up to some unreachable standard, including the impossable figure.

And if being led by the media and its misconceptions invalidates us as nolonger "worthwhile to society", then quick, lets lose 99% of humanity now.

Yes, I was a bit harsh.

Most people I know don't strive to reach that impossible figure. Most of them are happy right where they are. Some of them are trying to get themselves into "better" shape, they're not stooping to drastic unhealthy measures though.

Utter Rubbish
I've been a heavy smoker for over sixty years. I have drunk practicaly nothing except coffee over the same period.
By your reasoning this makes me an addict.
And I suppose someone who eats ,say potatoes, every day is addicted to them too.

Furthermore I am interested in what "damage" these cause. People rave on about "what tobacco does to your health". But nobody is ever specific about what damage they mean.

If you don't know what you are talking about,Don't!!!

heart disease
Strokes
Lung cancer
blindness
inpotence
Death

Its well documented, even a cup of coffee triggers off some drastic effects within the body.

And for every elderly smoker still alive there are hundreds more in an early grave, the overwhelming facts can't be dismissed purely because your still alive.

For whats its worth im a smoker and drinker, both done in unhealthy amounts.

I for one hope my children don't follow in my footssteps (the smoking at least, Alchol is different, Wouldn't deny a man a drink when the thirst comes upon him)

Coffee is a non-issue.

That said, I have breathed in so much asbestos over the years that it will be a close race to see wat puts me in the grave.
