| 389137 | 2005-09-19 02:10:00 | Thanks very much for the replies people. Also, i think your skimping on mice and keyboard if your into gaming, the netscroll is a POS, look around POS, what? Do you have any recommendations? I want a nice mouse, but the keyboard doesn't really bother me, as long as it is not too wide, and comes with a hand wrest thing. Also, changed to that Viewsonic lcd with an 800:1 contrast, thanks! I am going to get Ascent to assemble everything to save me the trouble  |

| 389140 | 2005-09-19 13:07:00 | My question marks.. 1. The case - is it any good? 2. Hard drive size - isn't 200 GB the sweet spot? 3. What, no RAID :) 4. No 5.1 speakers (!) (or better) 5. Let us hope that Ascent use good thermal compound on that puppy (alas I doubt they would be as exact as me)... 6. Oh and check warranty options... |

I get by perfectly fine on 40gb. I can upgrade later if I want. 3. Err, do I need this? 4. Not suitable for my house. 5. Anything I can do about this? 6. Shall I buy a 1 extra year warranty or something? Thanks |

At the difference in price I'rd be inclined to get something a bit larger. 3. Why. With one hard drive what will you use it for? 4.Never use them. 5.If you trust them to build your computer.Trust them to know how to do it properly. 6. Xtra warranty a waste of money. |

| 389145 | 2005-09-20 10:13:00 | Same with my 3000+, comes with a pretty grunty fan/cooler and you won't hear it above the case fan/s . Just a thought . . . as I've heard that the Athlon 3500 can run fairly 'hot' have you checked that the case has good air flow/decent fans? (at least two that is), will help a lot especially in summer . That's also a fairly big PSU which will pump out it's own measure of heat, even with an in-built fan . Case looks OK, appears to come with 2x 120mm fans (front/back) which sould do the job . Raid is good if you want to run 'hard drive intensive' applications as it 'shares the two drives' and swaps info between them . I don't think it would be an advantage for gaming (but someone else mifght know better) . Seems it's more for intensive number crunching or complicated graphics work . Stick with your 40MB for now . . . you can always upgrade to a couple of SATA drives in a RAID array later (the prices for SATA HD's are dropping still) . You can use the 'standard' 2 . 1 speakers with the 5 . 1 sound card . I'd suggest better 2 . 1 speakers rather than cheaper 5 . 1 speakers if you're playing video games . You can always upgrade to 5 . 1 later if you feel the need . The wired remote on the T3000 is very good idea, saves you having to use the mouse to change volume controls or rummage around under the desk for the volume knob on the control box . I haven't had anything assembled by Ascent, but in my dealings with them they always seem to know their stuff . . . compared to some computer places that's a real comfort . At least if they put the MB/CPU together you know it's more likely they will do a better job than you would :D HTH |

| 389146 | 2005-09-20 10:45:00 | At least if they put the MB/CPU together you know it's more likely they will do a better job than you would :D I agree totally with that :) The keyboard and mouse is driving me nuts. I cannot find what I want. The keyboard from the Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 3100 looks good, not too wide (I think, I cannot find the dimensions at all, anywhere). But if I was going to pay that much for a keyboard and mouse, I might as well get the newer Logitech G5/G7, but I don't see that in a package anywhere. I am only a light gamer really, I don't play any fps apart from bzflag :D , so, does anyone have a suggestion for a good, mid range keyboard/mouse? It doesn't bother me if it is wireless or not. |
