A curious idea Graham but I know what you are getting at. I think Geoffrey Palmer proposed that every new Act had a 15 years sunset clause, which meant Parliament had to review that law or it lapsed.

The Law Commission already exists for the purpose of reviewing legislation and recommending new laws to the Government. What happens in practise is that Ministers are so busy ramming through pet projects that the Law Commission is left on the hind teat.

Having said that, Italy has prospered for decades with governments lasting only 9 months. Life goes on.

Having just watched 3 woman sit down and discuss co-operation and compromises I like them. That male on the other hand just demonstrated he still thinks it was all a competition with the winner in charge. Typical.

That would be rather worrying. :(

389048 2005-09-20 09:32:00 There's some good analysis in this thread and my opinion as to what sort of Government we will have? Assuming the special votes don't change the outcome, then it will be a 'lame duck' government. "All bark and no bite" - which might actually be a good thing. With an impending economic slowdown, hindsight may reveal this was a good election to lose - whoever loses this time will have a much higher party vote next time around. And as others have stated it won't last 3 years, and my money says there will be another election in 18-24 months (assuming we don't stalemate in the next month). Yet again Winston holds the key...but then he always does given he holds the 'middle ground'.
