389878 2005-09-21 04:03:00 Im searching for some books - for study purposes and cannot find them in fishpond or whitcoulls. (education books) never used an online bookstore before, so new to me, google can find the books but all in usa. and $$$.

What other bookstores - online do people use? how many of the main ones have them?

Looking at new or used, cost being the main worry.

389884 2005-09-23 10:28:00 pctek has given the url for the best one IMHO. Set your search query to look for books only in NZ, and she'll be apples. I bought a book a couple of weeks ago in NZ for about $20, and the same book, same edition, same condition, was in a USA bookstore for about $180!

However, abebooks has got some good NZ second hand bookstores on their "books" as it were, and service is usually prompt.

I have only had one bad experience with them and that was with a bookstore which I think was called Mercury Retail from memory. They posed as a bookstore with the books I wanted in stock, and I assumed they were not only in stock but also second hand. Put in my order, and lo and behold they took weeks to import them from Britain brand new, and one shipment was lost so it took several more weeks to get a replacement shipment. Then I saw the same books retail in my local bookstore at a comparable price... Grrrrr.

However, in all but that one experience, abebooks have been great.

This search engine searches all the second-hand book listing sites (AbeBooks, Alibrus, Powell Books etc)
