389600 2005-09-20 03:32:00 We switched over to Orcons Bitstream connection from the resold Telecom service a couple of months ago, and have been amazed at just how slow this '2mbps' service is. I'm not blaming Orcon here, there's only so much they can do, and I'm sure they're doing everything they can.

What I want to know is if there are other people there with different ISPs and a 2mbps plan that actually IS 2mbps? Specifically iHug and Slingshot, as we have the opportunity to switch ISPs when moving at the end of this year.

Orcon 2mbps speeds in July 2005
1921.8 Kbps or 235.5 K bytes/sec

Speed as of 14 September...
400.2 Kbps or 49 K bytes/sec

389601 2005-09-20 03:59:00 I think that orcon were having a few problems round then. Can you test it again tonight & post the results? Greven (91)
389602 2005-09-20 04:41:00 373.1 Kbps or 45.7 K bytes/sec - not very scientific though (The other results were from Christchurch, possibly different time of day, and there are a couple of us here sharing the connection), but as a rough figure...

Orcon did some work on the 16th. Today with downloading a group of files from several different servers, it wasn't hitting any more than about 55 K bytes/sec.

This isn't a complaint, more a query as to what kind of speeds the other ISPs are getting.

389603 2005-09-20 07:39:00 Orcon has always had speed problems. Even with dial up. pctek (84)
389604 2005-09-20 07:48:00 As more and more people join their service, expect the service to degrade.

Although, usually once in a while, they'll take out your internet to upgrade the infrastructure and people start complaining because they don't have their net... the way I look at it, if it is going to improve the service, then I'd wait all day for it, I can live without it.

Cheers,

KK
