389382 2005-09-19 09:20:00 Isn't it wonderfully ironic that this site has www.directmarketing.org advertising while so much of the content of this site has been anti-spam.

Business I guess.

389387 2005-09-20 05:37:00 I use firefox and there was an from DirectMarketing. Animated too. I just thought it was odd for all the complaints about spam here that what is a snail mail junk mail firm advertised here.

I mean it's not as if it riles me or anything.

Odd post. Prob pointless.

Shall stop now.

Gone :D

389388 2005-09-20 05:49:00 pressf1 needs to earn its keep, that's why the ads are there.

However, like many people, I have never seen them...

Tell me if you can: are there ads down the right hand side of the bulletin board, under the "on newsstands now!" and "click here to subscribe online" link? It's a big blank space to me. Maybe PCW can put text ads (a la Google ads) here (hosted on their own servers to get around hosts files...).

389389 2005-09-20 06:01:00 On the right hand side theres' the ad for PCWorld at the top nad below that the ad changes around all the time but mostly for Unlimited Mag. Thats's all. Below that there's just a big white empty space. Maybe they can't get enough advertisers. There's also a banner at the top variously DirectMarketing.org and Telecom. Don't look at them much.

Sometimes I surf with images off and then I just get an icon saying "IMG".

[now it 's FFWD mag, no it's SEARCC ICT: building bridges Sydney convention center.]

389390 2005-09-20 06:10:00 Well then, context-based text ads would be just the ticket. These ads, if hosted properly and marked up properly, are very very difficult to filter with adblock and other filters, because they look like the contents in the posts.

Most people may have noticed that this site, for various reasons, has a very high profile in Google. Advertisers like that sort of thing....

389391 2005-09-20 19:30:00 However, like many people, I have never seen them...Same here.

Maybe PCW can put text ads (a la Google ads) here (hosted on their own servers to get around hosts files...).Good idea - it would be both productive and inexpensive for PCW, as well as less intrusive for viewers than any 3rd party push/pull adverts.
