671390 2008-05-22 02:59:00 Anyone having issues with Service Pack 3?
My PC had the rebooting problem that some people are having.
I'm not gonna reinstall it untill they know it is stable and working.

671391 2008-05-22 03:02:00 There are known issues with AMD systems (if its an HP system).

There is a script that you can run / should run BEFORE installing SP3, if you have an AMD system.

It'll check an entry in the registry, if your system is affected, it'll change an entry.

SP3 should be fine on Intel systems

What about AMD Home built computers?

Also has any one head any thing about AMD Acer laptops?

671393 2008-05-22 03:37:00 Umm not too sure if it affects ALL AMD systems.

BUT most sites, say it affects HP AMD systems more than anything else, after you install SP3.

I would run this vbs script an ex-MS exployee made, to check whether you're affected.

671394 2008-05-22 03:51:00 Two out of three of my computers are AMD systems, and I have had no problems with SP3. Both of them are built up from components - one is a Shuttle. John H (8)
671395 2008-05-22 04:16:00 Windows XP SP3 worked fine for me. Boot up was normal, no problems encountered.

Although, XP3 did kill my uxtheme.dll hack, which was done by the Multi-Patcher 5.5. So I couldn't use themes anymore.

Needless you say, I removed XP3 because I didn't really see much of a difference, and I really liked the skin I was using.

671396 2008-05-22 04:53:00 From what I gather its mainly HP AMD computers that are affected, its to do with the Image they use to load the OS onto the machine.

What I was reading - Typical HP loaded an image originally designed for Intel based PC's onto AMD PC's, so when SP3 tries to load, its thinking its loading onto a intel PC, but in fact its AMD, so it gets all confused, hence the reboots - the script that was mentioned above, locates the entry in the registry and changes/removes it.

If you have a AMD PC,even a HP, and you have wiped the drive and manually installed XP NOT using the recovery CD's / Partition there is generally no problems, I have had 1 HP PC do the rebooting, It happened after I loaded the recovery CD, then installing SP3 - Wiped the drive, and loaded XP from a standard CD, got the HP drivers, SP3 loaded perfectly.

if the Pc is affected by this rebooting - or you suspect it might you can always Download the HP Patch (h10025.www1.hp.com) and install that first- then SP3
