671378 2008-05-22 02:40:00 My daughter and her English husband have been living in France for a few years, so they have ended up with a locally supplied computer which has a French edition of XP. They manage with this quite well, but have a few problems developing with the OS, as they do.

I suggested I could possibly help them out from here, using say TeamViewer to look over their computer, but they thought the French edition of the OS might defeat me, which it might!

My question is, how deeply does the "Frenchness" of the OS go? Is the registry in French? Is "msconfig" or "regedit" in French? The list of Windows services?

Thanks for any help.

It would probably add a language icon down by the clock.

you could try copying over english versions of the correct dll, exe files etc

671383 2008-05-22 07:59:00 was quite a while ago but I've fixed a pc which had been brought from france......(did a korean and a chinese one too at other times).......

it's not that hard cause the menu's are still the same......IE: control panel is still at the same place on the start menu etc........and the icons are not different

so.....

if you are very familiar with pcs and their menus you'll find it all looks pretty familiar.........also soem french words are quite similar to english anyway and it's not too difficult............................(damn sight easier than chinese I can tell ya)
