671093 2008-05-20 08:55:00 Evening All,
I want to turn the widows firewall 'off' on a laptop I have. I open security centre and it tells me the firewall is 'on', yet when I click the link to turn it off, it tells me its already off. I can't connect to my network with it on and I can't turn it off......typical windows.....any suggestions
Xp pro sp2
Cheers
Grant

671094 2008-05-20 09:00:00 Half the time the security centre doesn't know whats going on - had that many times says the firewalls not installed then its almost as if it goes - hold on yes it is .

Any way - try this, Click start/control Panel, make sure you are in "classic view", NOT category View ( top left of control panel window) double click the firewall and select OFF. Click OK

671095 2008-05-20 09:00:00 You sure you havent got another firewall??

Is XP's firewall file sharing option ticked?

I doubt XP's firewall would stop you connecting to your network .

Its not that great .

Did you create and share a folder? Is the workgroup name the same as the other PC's?

671097 2008-05-20 09:23:00 Speedy, I have kaspersky 7.0 internet security installed on all 4 of my computers. 3 can be seen on the network but not the laptop.

File sharing is selected

671098 2008-05-20 09:25:00 The only thing I'm not sure about is your question re creating and sharing a folder Espresso_Addict (8458)
671099 2008-05-20 09:33:00 make sure the laptop is on the same workgroup - right click My Computer/Computer Name Tab / look and see that its the same as the others, if Not then click the Change Button, down the bottom change it what ever the others are. wainuitech (129)
671100 2008-05-20 09:39:00 It is on the same workgroup. I can ping the laptop and it can ping my desktop.
I have shared folders on both systems. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the Dynalink switch there both connected too

What you may like to try, is disable or even remove the kaspersky 7.0 internet security on the laptop- this will then confirm or deny if its the kaspersky software causing problems.

A couple of days ago there was another thread with similar problems, But kerio software , I Installed it on a workshop PC and replicated the problem, BUT even though all the settings were set as suggested by the manufacture it wouldn't share - removed the software and worked perfectly.
