When on the phone, or in a waiting room, or just at the office for the day, what is the music you are likely to hear?

What music is soothing to listen to and comfortable enough for others ears?

Im looking at expanding on the office music i have playing at times (when i remember or am am in the ofice to play it)

I can never tell what the online - phone music is, as my ears are not that specific in sound catching, i can hear its music but couldnt tell you what it is . . . . . .

Any suggestions? or ideas about are suitable types of music? or what irritates you the most to listen to?

Do you like listening to music while on hold? or in an ofice waiting room?

Ideas, comments appreciated, nothing to harsh please, both the people's comments or the music . :p

Thanxs from me

All the muzac does is distract, i tend to shut it out and in doing so take my mind off the reason for having the plastic thing by my ear. When it finally does get answered i then stammer and try to remember what the call was about.

Because i know there will be muzac played while waiting, i now have to write a list of what the call should be about so that after 10 minutes of distraction i can actually remember the questions, and find out the answers to whatever it is i need to know.

I also hate answerphones. I see them as a waste of time and hang up, either that or i talk as long as they will listen about the state of the answer service, how frustrating it is, how the current insane weather is natures way of restoring balance by inhibiting the virus called humanity that it has suffered long enough, the color of the new website, what a great company it is and how good it would be to talk to a person and actually do biz....

You get the idea :D

390558 2005-09-25 00:23:00 More information needed. What sort of business are you running? If your customers are in the younger group, then I guess any of the pop stuff would suit, but if your business is more conservative then there are plenty of light classics which should not annoy. Personally I find the kind of wailing female stuff really annoying as well as the heavy rock. But then I am in the older group and run a mile when I hear heavy thumping jungle music coming from some of the shops in the mall. heaton (3697)
390559 2005-09-25 01:17:00 How about 'Heartbreak Hotel' Beetle? :D

I've heard some terrible muzac on hold... especially the scratchy and squeely ones. Much better is a feed from a radio, at least there is decent music and possibly real human voices while on hold.

Nowdays if a company doesn't have a website/e-mail address for contact I don't deal with them. The BIG plus is that when you get a reply it's in writing... less chance of confusion all around and none of that "You are 298 in the queue, thank you for your patience, someone human (or relatively human) will be along shortly once they have finished dealing with some other moron".

Exactly how I find it. Good to know others feel the same way.

390561 2005-09-25 06:20:00 I was meaning for office music, actually we dont have music on the phone, we do not put people on hold . . . . . lol where possible . but we try to answer all calls instantly . . . . . sometimes difficult when 3 lines are ringing at once, and im only one here . . lol

What i was thinking of was more music that i play in the office, when people walk in the door and hear it . while waiting for the door to be answered or while browsing the brochure stands .

that sort of thing, easy listening music and yes i like blues, a bit of rock and celtic . . . . . . Hubby hates blues and celtic .
He also hates the music playing in the office, but quite a few customers comment on it and seem to like it, so thats more important . . . :p they pay the bills . . . .

Oh and i hate being on hold, and usually quite blunt when i get ansewred . . . . which is not the best, im not rude, but after waiting 25 mins i have other things to do . . . . . . and want answers now . I dont forget what i ring for usually . :waughh:

lol

Sounds like you've got a far better source of info as to what's appropriate than here.... Ask your clients that comment what they might want to hear!

Hi Beetle
I think you are dead right that it has to be soothing and easy listening . Otherwise you can get someone hyped up who is already brassed off or inpatient with waiting . Type of background music .

Things like Enya, Ottmar Liebert, Sade, Ella Fitzgerald . If you want I will think of a few more !
Cheers and good luck !

390564 2005-09-25 08:58:00 Supermarket research in the UK showed that if customers can remember the music without specifically paying attention to it, then it's either the wrong sort, or too loud.

The kind of music played on Cool Blue would probably be ideal... just be sure that the stereo used has a nice 'warm' sound, ie nice speakers and amp combination, and the volume is only just enough to be discernible.

Many mid-priced mini systems can create the kind of ambience you're probably wanting - our bedroom system is a relatively cheapie mini by Sony, but sounds way nicer than my somewhat more costly Pioneer midi setup.

If you're sticking with an existing sustem, just play with the effects controls - a higher bass at low volume makes a nice difference.
