670944 2008-05-20 09:05:00 OOPS:sleep sorry didn't notice the bit about trying another card. If its going OK after removing/reseating the CMOS battery, could have been dust on the connections. wainuitech (129)
670945 2008-05-20 09:24:00 Do you mean connections at the battery?
Ramtest got a fail at test #6 with all sticks in.
Going through them separately now.

670946 2008-05-20 09:29:00 Yeah- could have been a bit of dust/crap between the connections from changing the card etc, BUT if
Ramtest got a fail at test #6 with all sticks in. Then it only takes 1 to cause problems.

670947 2008-05-20 09:45:00 So if get up to test #7 on each stick would that tend to suggest a slot problem? Driftwood (5551)
670948 2008-05-20 11:35:00 try cleaning the contacts? Agent_24 (57)
670949 2008-05-20 12:07:00 Depending on the board and the RAM, some can be quite finicky as to what order they sit in the slots. I had one board with 3 sticks mixed RAM (specs were more or less the same) which would only fire without error if the sticks were just so. It'd be fun with 4 sticks, if that's what is causing the errors.

Another that was around a while ago, some boards didn't handle all available slots being occupied all that well.

BTW, errors or faults... most things will throw errors from time to time, but a failure on a fault is a different matter. Just wondering because you seem to have solved the fault, maybe there is no point in pursuing the RAM thing.

670950 2008-05-20 14:06:00 One thing I've noticed is that not all boards will tell you when the battery is flat - in fact some of them just refuse to start - and it's only once you replace the battery does it start and then tell you that there was a battery failure Agent_24 (57)

670953 2008-05-21 00:06:00 Even so can't really justify forking out a grand at the moment if I don't have to. Driftwood (5551)
