| 391971 | 2005-10-03 03:34:00 | Strange thing happened on my computer just before. Was playing a shockwave game ( muppets.go.com ) online with the kids when my computer slowed right down to a crawl. Had a look in taskmanager and noticed that there was a process call WoW.exe running. Killed it off with end task and things sped up again. Did a search on google and found that it's usually associated with World of Warcraft or some malware. I dont have WoW installed and never played the demo so Did a scan with spybot 1.4 and Adaware both updated and found nothing. Looked in msconfic/startup programs and there was nothing. Have since loaded that online game up again and checked running processes to see if it was that but theres no WoW.exe running. Weird.... |

| 391972 | 2005-10-03 03:48:00 | The main .exe for World of Warcraft is WoW.exe But this is hardly malware, the install folder on my PC is over 6GB. it would be hard to sneak that down in the background :). Running WoW in the background on a PC with less than about 1 GB of ram will stop it dead. Is it possible that someone (one of the afore mentioned kids, or their friends) decided it was a good idea to install it on your PC? Check c:\world of warcraft, or c:\program files\world of warcraft to see if it has been installed. If the WoW client is there, and you don't want it to be, just remove it from the add/remove programs in the control panel -Qyiet |

| 391974 | 2005-10-03 19:37:00 | Hmm, well the WoW.exe on your system wont be world of warcraft then, It would be hard to miss. The link you posted said it was a legitimatly used as a support program for 16bit (Win 3.11) programs, as well as being adopted by some spyware. So it *could* be legit (yeah right) I guess if you have run an uptodate spyware checker over your PC and can't find the .exe then there is not much more I can think of that you can do. -Qyiet |

| 391975 | 2005-10-03 22:12:00 | Thanks for your help qyiet. I've done numerous scans with both spybot & adaware, searched files and folders etc for wow.exe and the alternatives it maybe using (from that site), checked task manager after a few reboots and removed all cookies/history and temp files as well. Downloaded spyware doctor and that picked up no files by those names. Done another scan with spybot to remove the spyware that spyware doctor installed and thats about it. Ill leave it at that but keep an eye out just incase. Cheers. P/s, sorry for going OT |
