390915 2005-09-26 00:16:00 So....... I plucked up the courage to abandon my brick (great weapon for self defence, it would crush a yobbo's skull with one whack) and other assorted mobiles, and I noted the $49.95 charge per mobile, plus the advice that their email confirmation would tell me the total cost for the swap.

.........Then I got this confirmation:

Dear Billy T.........,

Thank you for your request to upgrade your 3 mobile services to a new Nokia 2280 on the 025 SwapYa Promotion. As requested we have placed you on the Prepaid Mates Rates plan for each phone. You will receive 3 new Nokia 2280s at no charge.

For more information regarding your plan please check out www.telecom.co.nz

Your mobiles will be delivered to:.............and Courier Post will deliver your phone within 3-5 working days.

Your mobile numbers will remain the same, although the 025 prefix will be replaced with 027. Once you have received your new handset it will be up and running within 24 hours. Please ensure you follow the charging recommendations for your battery to ensure that your battery is covered under the handset warranty.

I didn't expect the no charge thing, and these were all ex-Warehouse Gold Mobile jobbies so my only mobile history with Telecom is the period since they took over.

You can cancel out at the notification stage if you do get charged so if you have been thinking swapping, it looks like it is a good time to make the change because it makes for a very cheap upgrade.

BTW: Can anybody tell me how long their old phone kept working after receipt of the new? When I placed the order I forgot that my son was away out of town with one phone until next weekend and his may die on him!!!

Cheers

Billy 8-{)My friend did that. 025-her-number was diverted to 027-her-number as soon as the new 027 was live.

Yes, I know that, but I understand from a previous thread that the 025 number (and phone) may stay alive for outgoing calls for a period of days before Telecom cuts them off.

I want to know if anybody has experience of that, and if so, for how long were they able to use their old phone to make calls.

Cheers

Trevor :)I also got charged, but after a short phone call to telecom this was all cleared up. Worth a go, I just said I thought it was going to be a swap.
