672110 2008-05-24 06:15:00 Hi All...I have one folder on the desktop that I want to put a password to. how do I do that Please? PJ Poppa John (284)
672111 2008-05-24 06:32:00 I think you have to compress it using WinRAR or WinZip or any other compression program.
Then you double click on it and click "Add password" and confirm password. Then the folder will have a "zip" on it.

That will only put a password on the archive that contains a copy of the folder. It won't put a password on the original folder, so it won't do anything unless you delete the original folder afterwards (but then you have to open the archive with winrar every time and it gets very annoying)

I don't think there's any function included with windows to do it, but you can download 3rd party programs which will do it for you - I tried one once a long time ago but can't remember what it's called. Try searching google or download.com

There might also be something good and free on sourceforge.net

672113 2008-05-24 07:13:00 I'd recommend using TrueCrypt (http://www.truecrypt.org/) (freeware) although this may be a sledgehammer for your case. It's not a "double click folder, prompt for password" deal but you basically use a password to mount an encrypted "file" as a drive and unmount when finished. TrueCrypt is about as good as it gets in this regard. sal (67)
672114 2008-05-24 07:25:00 I use lockbox, (www.fspro.net)

It does not showup on you desktop or where ever unless you open the lockbox program and type your password in =)

Can't be any easier or better for free.
