672294 2008-05-25 22:45:00 OK I've been offered a E8400 for the same price as a E7300 so thats sorted.
Just looking for a good deal on a mobo.

The 7300 is even better than the 7200 as it has a 10x multiplier.....4ghz easy on this with stock voltages....

672295 2008-05-25 23:31:00 I do appreciate your advice but it's a done deal.
Any advice on a suitable mobo under $200?

672297 2008-05-26 01:00:00 On my short list so far I have: Intel-DP35DP, Asus P5KR, Asus P5KC, Asus P5K, asus P5K-Pro Driftwood (5551)
672298 2008-05-26 01:23:00 Wouldnt bother with the Intel board, The KC is a DDR2\3 combo board. ASUS are tier 1 manufacturers, so you will be good with any of them really.. SolMiester (139)

You can actually go up to 10.5x :D Got myself an engineering sample.

4GHz is a bit dreamy on stock volts though as it is pretty much the same as an E8200, it requires 1.38v to hit 4GHz (stock 1.1v). With the right cooling this isn't a problem. Its the final 200MHz that require the most voltage though so 3.8GHz is pretty easy to get.

As for a motherboard P35-DS3L or P5K-Pro

672300 2008-05-26 01:27:00 Oh, maybe it was 3.8 on stock then...., still pretty awesome. SolMiester (139)
