671671 2008-05-22 10:06:00 I have windows vista home premium. Just recently my Usb ports wont pick up external flash drives or read them so i cant connect to the internet because I connect through a wireless usb connector that connects wirelessly to the router. The odd thing is though that my mouse and keyboard which are connected via Usb works. I tried a system restore but no good.
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP I NEED TO GET MY WORK OFF FLASH DRIVE!

671673 2008-05-22 11:07:00 Does the flash work?, have you tested in another pc, if it does, try in the mouse usb port as its a known good port. SolMiester (139)
671674 2008-05-22 11:40:00 yes tried that and it works in other computers but not in mine. tried it in the mouse port and same thing. Message comes up with 'usb device not recognised' but then it installs drivers and says 'unknowen usb device installed succsessfully' but you still cant find its file in my computer or anywhere. bjw90 (13029)

671676 2008-05-22 12:49:00 Well, you might have to use someone else's computer to get your work off until a solution is found.

In Device Manager, are there any yellow exclamation marks?

Have you tried Disk Management to see if the drive is recognized there?

And you have tried to plug in the drive directly to the computer rather than the hub right?

I must have missed that?......

OP are you using a USB Hub?

671679 2008-05-22 23:45:00 Nope can't see hub mentioned either?

Does the router have an ethernet port? If so connect by ethernet in the meantime. As an aside, I know it's common but USB has always been dodgy for network connections, not as relaible as ethernet anyway.

I suspect your issue is a Windows one more than a hardware one. Have you done any upgrades/patches lately?

Here's a good resource for USB stuff. (www.usbman.com)

What is your motherboard, what is the chipset/USB hub controller?

Edit: The link I posted above does not appear to have any info on Vista. You might find something in amongst the troubleshooter section anyway.
