I posted a thread early this year on PTT, but now that it has been around for awhile I wonder if any users of PTT can tell us if it is really worthwhile? Telecom's $10 for 300 minutes per month seems cheap enough, in fact maybe it is a misprint or short term hook.

Basic question: when PTT is used, is it really like a walkie talkie in that the other phone does not ring but the person's voice is heard immediately in the phone?

393690 2005-10-05 22:22:00 Only problem with PTT is that all your mates have to have a PTT capable phone as well.
We have used it here at work on Vodafone with the Motorolla V303P phones.
It worked really well.
First you have to set up your PTT contacts, which are seperate from you normal contacts.
Then you can set up group/s and put some or all of your contacts in these groups.
To PTT someone you select their name from you contact list and push the button. It takes a few seconds to connect and the receiver will hear a beep to say they have a PTT coming in. Then you can talk like a walkie talkie and your voice goes through pretty much instantly, maybe a second or two delay.
You can also talk to all the people in any of your groups at the same time.
It also shows you on your contact list who has their PTT enabled.

393691 2005-10-05 22:53:00 Do you still use it at work?, or did usage fade as the novelty wore off? Metla (12)
393692 2005-10-05 23:40:00 ive used it on telecom phones, i think its ok, its sometimes a bit hard to hear what the other person is saying, but that maybe a handset issue.

it takes a little while for your phone to "connect" to the other, but once a connection is made its just like a walkie talkie

its very popular in the states, and its starting to become more poplular in europe too.

We used it all the time (even at the most inappropriate times :D) because it was free but then Vodafone started charging for it so we now call instead because that is free between our work cellphones.
We only had it for about 3 months.

393694 2005-10-06 09:30:00 Thanks guys. I am interested since sometime I will have to replace my 3 yr old cellphone and at $10/mo for 300 min, it is cheaper than ringing at 49c per minute. Strommer (42)
