673165 2008-05-27 12:15:00 Hey I'm looking for a good external microphone for the Canon HV20 camcorder. Has anyone had experience with any external mics and if so can you suggest any particular models? Cheers. aonghas (12649)

Get one with some type of wind noise filter over it.

Mine also has a switchable option to pick up audio at 90 degrees or 180 degrees which helps filter out unwanted sound if you just want it from a narrow direction.

Mine is a Sony one which is for my Sony camera, maybe Canon have them also for your camera.

If you have a mic input, Rode get pretty good wraps. A "dead cat" (see below microphone list) is an essential I am told for wind noise. Pretty pricey though. I am sure you could make one up for any mike with a bit of thought and a willing helper to sew it up.
