394512 2005-10-08 08:44:00 I did a visit today, they had Ultra Hi 96 but now have 95 instead?

Why is this? Also is it ok for myself to use 92 instead? Just a avg family sedan japanese from the days of 1992 abouts.

Those guys even plastered a 96 sticker on the inner of our petrol door, maybe they wanted us to buy the more pricey stuff, I dunno .....

Thanks.

Perhaps, the governnet has taken the approach to lower the percentage of octane in it so as to conteract the fuel price increase? ;) Was just talking nonsense. :D

Cheers :)

92? I thought its 91...and you should be able to. Not many Jap cars have to have higher octane.
You may need to adjust the timing is all.

Yeah, on the inside of our petrol door they've plastered two stickers aswell.
A red 96 octane sticker and a green 91 octane sticker!.
Go figure...
Half the people/mechanics i've asked recomend 96 and the other half recomend 91.
So,.... if i'm rich or in the need for speed it's 96. Poor or the cars full of kids it's 91.

394519 2005-10-08 22:36:00 This is hard to believe, but until around 1954/1955, all we had in UK was the so-called wartime "Pool" petrol of 72 Octane  . It was called Pool Petrol, because during the war all the petrol from the different manufacturers was 'pooled' into one source.

I can remember getting excited when 85 octane 'Premium' petrol became available, and I was able to increase the compression ratio on my motorbike from 6.5 up to 7.5. Quite quickly after that the octane ratings rose up to 100, and the best juice to run a Vincent on was 100 octane Cleveland Discol, an alcohol blend petrol, compression ratio was then lifted to 9:1.
