394454 2005-10-08 07:14:00 I own a Mustek DVD machine. However the DVD film is showing a black and white picture on my TV. It used to show a full colour picture before. My TV is a TEAC one. The TV is showing full colour for the usual TV channels.

I tried taking the machine to a Dick Smith shop but it showed a colour picture on one of their TVs.

Any ideas what is causing this problem?

Is it possible for me to fix this? If yes, how?

I'm not sure if I can post this on Press F1 as this seems to be a hardware problem rather than a computing problem, but it might be relevant as it might be a problem with laptops/PCs too (ie the DVD hardware might be fine but somehow the picture signal gets lost in the transmitting to the display screen and ends up as black and white colours?)

Yes, quite sure. Is there a diagram for showing how to do this correctly?

The TEAC TV has a SCARP adaptor. Would this be a factor? 		barryk (8612)

- It may be a PAL/NTSC problem
- A macrovision problem (copy protection scheme that many DVDs employ)
- Or if you have a s-video signal feeding into a SCART connector (as per the forum thread) seems to be an issue. 		gibler (49)

I first checked the leads about a week ago. They seemed ok then I unknowingly moved them to other sockets in an attempt to get the coloured picture.

Then tonight..

I inserted a DVD into the machine but the AV channel still showed a blank black picture.

I tried pressing TV-SYS on the remote. Still didn't work.

Then I looked again at the leads, realised the leads should have been left plugged into the original sockets. I shifted the leads back into the original sockets.

Then the TV showed the colour picture!! Hooray!

I tried pressing TV-SYS several times to see the effect on the picture. Indeed the picture changed from colour to black & white & back again depending on the rendering scheme used (PAL or NTSC).

Now I will shift to trying to fix the data transfer issue (see my other thread under my same username).

That's something for persistence. At one time I thought of getting a new DVD machine, but decided to try to fix this issue. 		barryk (8612)
