| 394405 | 2005-10-07 23:52:00 | Can someone give me a good thumb of rule for prices for selling second hand PC's. Is estimating that buying a brand new PC today will dpreciate in its resale value by say 20% every year. E.g if i walk into Harvey Norman and get a brand new PC with printer and csanner for say $2500. How mush will be in 2 years time? Also selling complete systems i.e printr and scanner etc increase that resale value by much or it doesnt really matter. |

| 394406 | 2005-10-08 00:33:00 | 45% depeciation on day of sale. Worth under 25%after 2 years. Printers dont add any value. Computers are only worth the sum of their parts, The big brand comps devalue worse due to the use of craptastic hardware. This also means they aren't worth the new purchase price. |

A $2,500 computer would have a depreciated book value of less than $676 after 2 years. Very close to Metlas estimate and probably realistic (if you could find a buyer that is). IRD allow 48% business depreciation per year New = $2,500 Year 1 = $1,300 Year 2 = $676 Year 3 = $352 Year 4 = $183 etc |

So IRD are coming to live in the real world? ;) PCs are considered "obsolete" before they get to the shop these days. They are as good an investment as "collector" phone cards, or "limited edition" All Black jerseys. |

| 394410 | 2005-10-08 03:01:00 | That logic eludes me Cic, as he would have to be also a willing seller at the time, or you would have to be carrying a threatening blunt object ..... (apart from your sense of humour I mean). | godfather (25) | ||
| 394411 | 2005-10-08 03:17:00 | G_F,it eludes me too,but that is what the man said. In "real world" terms, the moment you open the cartons you have depreciated the item by 50%. |

I asked JJJJJJ to sell me his computer for 1/2 price, but he wouldn't sell, which is why I questioned the logic of that poster. |
