395126 2005-10-11 21:59:00 Quite right drcspy. And then to make matters 'worse' there are amateurs like me who maintain people's comps for free, often with advice from here. And most of what I've learnt I've picked up from here. (thanks) m :D mark c (247)
395127 2005-10-11 22:17:00 I just meant google text ads in general, we don't use them at IDG, but text ads is always an option.
Some of them can be pretty spammy looking though, especially some of the new ones that are coming out with images.

395128 2005-10-12 02:28:00 Mary: You can select the option to have text only ads when you put the ad code in. No images necessary :D

But yes, they are good. Purely because they actually have relavent ads, rather than the generic ones

395129 2005-10-12 05:34:00 The concept of paying to contribute to threads astounds me!

Ads pay the bills (i hope) and most of the people who come here are viewers of a free to air site.

Paying to post is like charging someone to write a book for you. :confused:

Do GoogleAds pay well?

395131 2005-10-12 08:23:00 Just wondering, Chill, why did you set the poll to close at 14-10-2005 at 09:57 AM? Is there any particular reason to this?

Cheers :)

395132 2005-10-12 09:29:00 I just decided to have a 3-day poll :) Chilling_Silence (9)
395133 2005-10-12 09:56:00 At least if you had to pay to contribute, you would stop an awful lot of dribble that comes out my mouth :o plod (107)
395134 2005-10-12 12:41:00 True, and I bet we wouldnt get anybody making a post that consisted soley of:

<bump>

;)

395135 2005-10-12 19:20:00 Yeah but sometimes you have to bump to get someone to notice an issue, especially I have noticed, if its posted Saturday night/Sunday.

As far as gettting charged to ask for or offer advice, I would move on elsewhere. I think PF1 is the bomb as far as some of the posters (I know I have learnt alot from some of them).

Heres a thought, would you pay for Gentoo if they started charging for it, or would you move to another not so good O/S @ Chilling_Silence?
Its the same thing
