The perment placement of adds down the side is a €rap idea, not everybody has a huge monitor, note the first two links

As long as the ads are on the right it isn't too bad - only the ads will be off the screen.

395107 2005-10-11 03:35:00 I don't think we have a lot of ads.. just a banner and a skyscraper, they are not particularly intrusive either.
I visit other sites with far more advertising than this... just look at the likes of inc.com or wired.com

my :2cents: :D

Just use Firefox and turn the ads off.

395110 2005-10-11 05:44:00 Shortcircuit, Have you read the NZ Herald online lately? They have started to charge to read it; you can't read any of the editorials without paying a subscription.
Why pay for lame local content when you can get the best for free? (http://news.bbc.co.uk/)

Aunty Herald charging??... ah, my attempt at humour, I know they have started with premium content. Funny thing is that my elderly mother is uspet that the Herald have bumped up the delivery price and she doesn't think she can afford it any more. I suggested that she read the Herald on line as she's hooked up to the net.

Her reply was; "Oh, I couldn't do that- it would be dishonest!"

My question is- why are bean counters everywhere on the internet (in NZ it seems in particular) suddenly looking at ways to extract money from their loyal followers?

(No offence to Chill for his brainwave!)

395114 2005-10-11 08:43:00 NO definitely no... as stated by previous posters the F1 members are what make the site a success. It is what sets us apart from all other forums, our personalities, sense of humour and our stalwart belief that F1 is the best dam self help PC forum on GOD'S GREEN EARTH...

Let me take this opportunity to say that I have enjoyed and benefitted immensely since joining F1, my computer knowledge has increased 100 fold. The advice is friendly and based on real world experiences... somehow I don't think anyone could beat that nor can you put a price tag on it.

We have the best mods you could ask for and they do not hamper the forum users in having the full experience.. unless of course it's completely out of line... which fortunately hardly happens.

cheers

395115 2005-10-11 10:08:00 What a good idea Chill. :horrified I've thought up some psuedo code you can use:

if ((user == C_B) && (new_thread == true))
{
totalToPay += $1;

if (totalToPay >= $10)
{
sendInvoice(user, totalToPay);
}
}
else {
createNewThread();
}
