Especially if the DVD is formatted in standard DVD video structure (so it will play on standalone DVD players)

I've found that on occasion AutoGK can stuff up the audio/video sync sometimes. Otherwise it's an alright program as well.

How To's on http://www.videohelp.com/

SVCD will give you better quality than VCD.

Alternatively if you can connect the Laptop via a network cable or USB cable and transfer the entire DVD to the Laptop Hard Drive and play it from the HDD. You can get USB cables from likes of Dick Smith that allow Computer to Computer transfer, I have one here.

672711 2008-05-27 03:03:00 Why would you want to convert to SVCD anyways, unless your standalone player doesnt support AVI's?

The quality is nowhere near whats offered by XviD let alone h.264...

672713 2008-05-27 03:35:00 Re-authoring and shrinking from a DL DVD to "4.7 GB DVD" is OK but I'd pass the rest of the work over to the aforementioned AutoGK to get it down 700 MB. true, also depends on the quality wanted, AutoGK is good, also depends on what "extras" you cut out of the original when editing as to if it will fit a CD. wainuitech (129)
