394447 2005-10-13 01:55:00 Surley IPods have a regular HeadPhone out? If so then they should be compatable with those Belkin FM tunecasts etc. They just take a Heaphone lineout as their input and broadcast that to your radio.

It would surprise me if IPod had a propriatory headphone jack/audio out system! That would mean you couldnt use your own headphones on them....

394449 2005-10-13 03:27:00 Who needs an MP3 player, you can get a USB pen drive heaps cheaper, then grab one of these (www.vr-3.com) Rob99 (151)
394450 2005-10-13 03:58:00 Having used both ITrip and the Belkin device, I have found that it is difficult to get a "clear" channel in Auckland.
I learnt that Alpine Head units have an accessory input usually used for the disc changer.
Plug the ipod earphone out into the ACC input on the head unit and away you go...

Much cleaner than the FM transmitters and a MUCH better sound.

This is using an Ipod, but will work for any device with a headphone out...

This was using a bottom of the range Alpine Head unit.

Check with your local Car Stereo place

Hope that I am not hijacking the thread by honing in on not being able to get a "clear" channel. It is a problem, a friend uses 102.7 but it has not worked for me. Before I changed car I used 96.4 and got pretty good results. Since upgrading to a Jap import I now have a car radio without a band expander. Have been using 80.00 which was recommended by someone on this forum and sometimes great ...but the last few days as I travel from the Albany Highway and turn into Upper Harbour Drive then there is a lot of interference until I get over the Upper Harbour Bridge. When I hold my hand slightly above, or touch the iTrip the reception recovers completely. Take the hand away though and the reception virtually goes completely. How safe is it to only drive with one hand on the wheel ? Wonder if the interference has anything to do with the overhead lines. There seems some correlation but the disturbance continues a bit even when there are no lines. Maybe the weather as the recent bad weather seems to be the only other variable.

Just when I thought that things were becoming perfect !! :groan:

394453 2005-10-23 09:43:00 I agree with Ninjabear. I think a car kit into your tape deck of your car stereo is a good and cheap way to go.

You can also try: http://www.mediaplayers.co.nz as well. They seem to have some good decent mp3 players.

Cheers.
