| 394497 | 2005-10-08 10:41:00 | Hey, Just been looking around the net to buy some DJ lighting, strobes, lasers. Does anyone know of any good places to buy them from? Nothing serious cause its just for a bit of fun use at home! Thanks people ;) |

| 394499 | 2005-10-08 13:38:00 | if is for home use then expect to pay from $600 upwards for a smoke/fog machine, $100 plus for a strobe, and $6-800 for a laser, its not cheap at all, i work professionally doing theatrical and live performance lighting and basic dmx controllable smoke/fog/hazers start at about $3k for a very very small output machine, lasers are into the $50k plus, movers as in martin roboscan and the likes are $4k upwards and thats just for the lights, the dmx system behind it is much more intriquite and expensive, you need digital packs which are from memory $2k plus each, the lighting board, which start at about $2k also, but most live companies such as Spotlight and Oceania use boards whoch are $30k plus | Tux (606) | ||

For what Ollie123 needs, he/she won't need DMX controllable devices - just single-phase plug-in-and-switch-on devices would do the job fine. I saw DSe had a smoke machine for around $91 a while back, and also a strobe kit. www.dse.co.nz Arlec Multi Spot Disco Light www.dse.co.nz Arlec 20cm Disco Light www.dse.co.nz Arlec Double Disco Light www.dse.co.nz Before MSL Theatre Systems (in Hastings) sold up a couple of years back, they sold professional gear (into the thousands of dollars), as well as cheaper goods for just fun around the home. The sold cheap smoke machines (around $100), mini strobes, mirror balls, coloured-light-balls etc, usually around the $30 mark for the small sized ones. I'm sure similar companies in Auckland would do the same. The former hire-manager of MSL recommended to me that I contact Kenderdines (www.kelpls.co.nz (http://www.kelpls.co.nz)) in Auckland, or Creative Lighting in Gisborne - If you live there, give them a shot. Otherwise Grouse Lighting in Wellington are very good - I've dealt with them on a number of occasions in the past to hire professional gear. Techanserve in Hawkes Bay, and there's a number of smaller firms in other parts of the country. Have just got a small room, (4m by 4m) with the computer and speaker system hooked in and wanted to make it look good by chucking some neat effects in there aswell. Live in Timaru though but will definently check out those retailers sites. Thanks again. |
