673505 2008-05-28 22:20:00 When I watch DVDs, I normally watch them on my laptop, but I've found that watching a full-length feature film makes it (a) run hot which leads to fan noise to cool the laptop and (b) the things vibrates alot when watching DVDs, which makes it uncomfortable to have on my lap.

So, can I stream them from my desktop PC over the wireless network to my laptop??

Desktop runs Vista Home Prem, laptop runs XP.

TIA

100mbps ethernet will be fine.

VLC is good for that.

I personally would use DVDShrink to make an .iso of the DVD, and use VLC to play it on the laptop.

673507 2008-05-28 22:24:00 OK, I can run it through ethernet (thank God I don't have a Macbook Air!!) But which program should I use to stream/play it? jwil1 (65)

Yes, thank God.

I'd use VLC Media Player...theres probably other options out there.

673509 2008-05-28 22:33:00 Why even bother with a streaming app? Just share your optical drive on the desktop, and point your DVD-playing software at the share rather than at the optical drive in your laptop. Works perfectly, and saves a *lot* of hassle. If your DVD player can't accept UNC paths (the \\computername\sharename\ type ones) then just map the share to a drive letter. Erayd (23)
