673340 2008-05-28 02:49:00 Hi Guys

Anyone know if its possible to get Ubuntu or PCLinuxOS to work via Microsoft Virtual PC even though it isn't officially supported?

Or is there some other easy to learn and use virtualisation software which could do it for me?

Cheers

673341 2008-05-28 03:04:00 Ubuntu will work, but you can't use 24-bit colour in Virtual PC. You can use "Sfae graphics Mode" in the Ubuntu CD boot menu though. There are guides all over the Internet for getting it to work. jwil1 (65)

Yes - I have used both in Virtual PC (2007). Note that you need to do a tiny bit of tweaking to make them work properly, as jwil says.

Does the mouse work OK, as I had issues with non responsive mice in virtual Linux about 6 months ago due to VPCs emulated mouse not being supported

Was fine when I tried PCLinuxOS in March.

Don't know why but I can't get it to work.

All attempts to load linux from any of my iso files or CD's fail.

No errors are displayed.

Edit: Ok just tried Ubuntu 8.04 again, removed the silent splash command from the boot options, stops at: 600.023912 Time: tsc clocksource has been installed

Ubuntu 7.10 stops at: 1939.024220 pnp: 00:0d: iomen range 0x100000-0x1fffffff could not be reserved
