673316 2008-05-28 00:59:00 Hey Guys!
I have been following avidly the construction series in PC World, but now I have a problem.
In Part 7 where it talks about the first boot, I enter the CMOS setup utility, then Intergrated Peripherials where I select SATA RAID/AHCI mode, set it to RAID and press enter to save the setting. (I note that the instructions saying to press ESC leave me in the default of Disabled.)
I then scroll down to Onboard SATA/IDE Cntrl Mode Here Instead of making sure it is set to SATA/IDE mode, I find the only choice is betwen IDE, AHCI, and RAID/IDE.

Anyone sugest what it is that I am doing wrong?...Many thanks in advance.

Are you using the same motherboard that Scott put in the PCWorld Beast?

If not, not all BIOSes (pretty sure thats not a word) are the same, and that would be why your config is slightly different.

In your case, you would probably use IDE, if you are not setting up a RAID, although try the AHCI and see if that works, if you have SATA HDDs, having AHCI mode is preferable.

673318 2008-05-28 01:10:00 If you've got 1 SATA hdd (You probably cant enable RAID).

If youre trying to install Windows, change it to IDE (unless you've got the SATA drivers), to install Windows. Then change it back to SATA / AHCI after.

Altho, not all systems (Even if youre using a SATA hdd), you dont have to disable AHCI or install SATA drivers.

Windows will install fine, whether AHCI is disabled or not in the BIOS.
