| 673245 | 2008-05-27 22:46:00 | i just recently powered on my desktop, which was working the other day and noticed it was unusually quiet...... i found that the hard-drives arent powering up, neither is the dvd drive or the fan on top the CPU. Yet the video card fan is audible. No matter what i take out, or replace the same thing happens, i replaced the PSU last week with a 400w, is the mobo dead? (yes all the plugs are pushed in properly) and the case light at the front lights up so the psu is ok, i notice the power buttons are unresponsive once th machine is on. (i dont leave it on long as i dont want to burn the cpu to burn out | aidanmaz (7180) | ||
| 673246 | 2008-05-27 23:10:00 | If the power button isnt responsive, it sounds like something isnt wired / connected properly. Thats if it doesnt turn off, if you press the on/off button. If the CPU is overheating, it should turn the system off (depending on what the CPU is). Before it fries itself. You said you connected all plugs, but did you reconnect the ATX 12v connector, if it needs it? After you replaced the PSU? |

| 673247 | 2008-05-27 23:16:00 | the atx plug is only a 20pin, the new psu can with an xtra 4 pin plug but that isnt needed, and there also another 4 pin that plugs into a plug nextto the cpu (wow so techy there sorry). the power and reset buttons are pretty useless after i intialally turn the machine on, no amount of pressing works, i did plug it in according to the mobo manual, only way to turn it off is at the wall | aidanmaz (7180) | ||
| 673248 | 2008-05-27 23:24:00 | Whats the brand/model of the mobo? Its not too healthy for it (if u keep turning it off at the wall). Without shutting it down first (thats if you boot into Windows with it). The on/off button is probably sticking / stuffed |

| 673253 | 2008-05-27 23:50:00 | i have, i hav used 3 different psu's of different watts (a 230, 300, 400w) same result. with new psu (400w) the dvd now powers up, the hdd and CPU still appear dead. the vid card fan is spinning. If not suspect the board . If it does, suspect the PSU . Or a dead drive . Makes no difference how old it is . What are the specs of all this stuff anyway, inc the PSU - like how many amps on the 12v? |
