396702 2005-10-17 07:16:00 Nearly all bulbs in America are the screw type. Americans have a simple method of dealing with them. First break the bulb - then push a new potato of the right size down onto the bits left. You should now be able to turn it using the potato as a holder.
So, basically, the role of a potato is to fit itself into the remnants of the lightbulb after smashing (i.e., the glass, wire, plastic pieces) so that I can use it and somehow "unscrew" off the remaining lightbulb? Just like a key? Why potato of all the veges? Why not, uh, apple? Or maybe kumara?

Cheers :)

396703 2005-10-17 07:16:00 What is the explanation behind this claimed-effective method?

James, I don't know how to explain it because . . . . . errrr . . . . . ahhhh . . . . . it is just obvious . Think about it . As Thomas01 says, the potato becomes a holder .

396704 2005-10-17 07:20:00 Geez. It's because the potato growers own the lightbulb companies doesn't anybody listen to me? mark c (247)
396705 2005-10-17 07:59:00 Good day, folks, I just realise that the bulb in front of the garage has burned out. After 10 minutes of trying to unscrew it, I realise that I am not making any progress at all (yup, applied the right force toward the right direction - anticlockwise). I had tried rotating it through the opposite direction, no good at all. I am pretty sure it is screw-typed as most bulbs in my house are screw-based. What can / should I do?

Cheers :) Easiest way, find a woman and get her to do it :p

Nope, did nothing actually. I think it is much more better if I wait until my dad comes over to NZ at this coming Friday. He will make all the house's big decisions.

Cheers :)

HAHAHA sorry no offence meant, but I haven't followed this thread, and just having read the title and then James' last comment it sounded really random.

How do I unscrew a lightbulb? Better wait for my dad, he makes the big decisions!

No offence, I read the thread, and understand whats going on now, just this post made me laugh.

Cheers,

396709 2005-10-18 08:19:00 Obviviously James is going to pass on to his father godfather's advice to sell the house. Then it will be up to him. PaulD (232)
396710 2005-10-18 18:46:00 The potato lobby can go to blazes, we use carrots or turnips too for the same job..they have more fiber and don't you know that you need more fiber in your diet anyway? SurferJoe46 (51)
