396087 2005-10-25 08:26:00 .......now going to the pictures, is like sucking a wet bus ticket.

Nonsense. You obviously haven't experienced going to somewhere like Berkelys (http://www.circlelounge.co.nz/) in Botany where you can get leather armchair recliners with built in side tables, food and drink service, and ... loads of space.

" Do they not show Movietone News anymore .
I suppose no cartoons either . "

. . . and . . . they got sound now too!

The first thing you'll notice is that when a mouth moves, words seem to come outta it!

They also fired the organist .

. . . just yanking your chain a little!

396089 2005-10-31 10:24:00 hmmmmm.

The Bad

The movie failed to tell Burts story, or the story of his bike.

Played like a Kiwiana film overlaid with formulaic Ameriacan movie making.

The accent was munted by Hopkins.

The Good.

For all that it felt staged and contrived it was an excellent movie, Thouroghly enjoyed it but now feel I need to find a book on the man and his deeds.

396090 2005-10-31 20:42:00 I wonder if Britten was inspired by Burt Munro.
Maybe in 50 years we will see a film about him.
Go find that book Metla and let us know what it is called.

396092 2005-10-31 20:56:00 I disagree with Metla's comments. It was kinda impossible to tell his whole story in just a couple hours of cinematography. And it shouldn't be viewed as a documentary - it's supposed to be an entertaining view of a man and his machine who captured a world record, which I think it did really well. It showed a segment of the most significant portion of his life's successes.

If it was going to capture his whole life we wouldn't have seen as much of Hopkins in the role, which woulda been a shame.

My missus wasn't particularly keen to see it, but she loved it as much as I did.

396093 2005-10-31 21:09:00 Tell me, after seeing the movie do you know anything more then you went in?, Yep, some guy from down south had a fast Indian and rode it in Bonnivile.Im not saying make it a doco, but they had a lot of material to work with if they wanted.

I would hazard a guess and say nearly every event they reproduced in the movie was pure fantasy.

Its an enjoyable movie, I won't dispute that, But imo could have been far far better. The guy was a life time racer/rider/mechanic, the trip to Bonnivile was the highlight of a long career, and they reduced it all down to a road trip movie.
