| 673425 | 2008-05-28 18:08:00 | When I have had problems with Illegal Characters stopping a deletion, I revert to the old W98 DOS Command DELTREE.EXE Although no longer part of XP it is easily found with Google. Nothing I have yet found stops it but it is this very power that also makes it dangerous so it must be treated with great care. One slip up with the syntax and it can be very unforgiving so unless you are comfortable working in a DOS window, seek more experienced help |

| 673426 | 2008-05-28 21:03:00 | You could try deleting it from linux - it handles files with 'illegal' characters just fine (or at least I was able to save a file with a : in it) But ! is not an illegal character in windows so I don't see how that could be the problem Yes, you are right, attributes were HS, hidden system yet not!.....anyway they its now deleted.....wonder how they got there...about 13000 36kb wma files..... anyway, avast has been runner all night, damn it stopped for message at 5% with virus waiting answer so still going....!! |

Yes that is why I have all hidden and system files set to show on all my systems. Call me paranoid but I like to know what is trying to hide... Also done that with a virus scanner too.. damn it was annoying! whenever I do an unattended scan I now just set it to auto-quarantine - that way you can restore any false positives without fuss |
