396077 2005-10-24 04:13:00 No Jen it is not the trailers to other films,

Some years ago they had candid films, once it was a comedy about "sleep walkers" A very good one that springs to mind was a nature one on how the introduction of deer to NZ has killed off NZ natural wild life, and showed how capturing deer and taking them away with helicopters for deer farming, the wild life is starting to return like it was before deer was introduced to the country, honestly you would have to be plain ignored not to enjoy some of these films.

Then there was the break and the main movie. There was no break the other week when I went, mind you after the ticket price I was not in the mood for a ice cream.

396078 2005-10-24 08:58:00 I know what Eric means. When I were a lad, God Save the Queen was played by a filmed band in livery. We all stood up for the anthem.

Then there was a short film, sometimes in the nature of a news clip or documentary. American, British and NZ stuff. Movietone I think.

Then a break when you could get an ice-cream and jaffas. :D.

Then the main film commenced. It was quite a full experience going to the "pictures" in the 1960s.

396079 2005-10-24 09:01:00 So I've now seen The World's Fastest Indian and enjoyed it immensely. I had my doubts about the project, and Hopkins ability to be a local - but that all vanished after about 5 minutes.

What the rest of the world will think doesn't matter. It is a great Kiwi story, well made, and deserving of the rave reviews we give it.

Do they not show Movietone News anymore.
I suppose no cartoons either.

396081 2005-10-24 09:26:00 Just saw it tonight, it was pretty good. :D Some good laughs in there as well but I missed some of the jokes because I couldn't hear everything Hopkins was saying. vapo (5203)
396082 2005-10-24 10:03:00 I thought it was very good, although I think Mr Hopkins' "kiwi" accent wavered considerably. Still he gave an impressive performance of the kiwi attitude and #8 wire mentality.

396084 2005-10-24 21:02:00 . . .
Last time I went they had a candid film on before the main film, if you pick a dud movie the pre-film made up for it . Now days, no such luck . . . . Just before matrix revolutions came out there was a film (that was awful, I think it was called dreamcatcher) that had a short film "The last flight of the osiris" played before it .

Seeing a good short film did make me feel much better about going to see a dud movie .

396085 2005-10-24 21:04:00 Heh.....Dreamcatcher......I read the book. I hated it.

Then I rented it on DVD, and it was even worse then the book.

No idea what I'm thinkin sometimes.

My wife took her 84 yr old father to see this flick.... now before I reveal what he thought of it, you must understand that he can be a grumpy old f**t when it comes to things like going out to the theatre, and he has probably only seen two flicks at the theatre over the last decade, maybe two decades; and he is not too well having emphysema breathing proglems. Well well, he laughed his head off and thoroughly LOVED the film. Mind you, he is like Burn Munro - like the way he clipped his toenails and set the unmown grass on fire!!!

BTW, he went to see "Indian" around lunchtime on Sunday and the theatre was nearly all full. Its getting good support here in Masterton.
