673355 2008-05-28 08:04:00 Why not try to use the Wubi installer? It installs Ubuntu to a folder on Windows, and this folder is seen by Ubuntu as its hard drive/file system?

Virtual Hard Drives can be shared between computers easier.

673357 2008-05-28 09:28:00 Just try VMware Server (www.vmware.com) - it's free (registration required). I've got ubuntu 8.04 up & running at work (plus 6.06, FreeDOS, Win98 & Win2k) - just about to set it up at home tonight.

VMware doesn't seem to require all physical RAM (close, though) to be available to run the guest OS, unlike VPC. However, the shared folders feature you get with VPC for Windows VMs doesn't come free - that's part of their Workstation product. Doesn't really matter as much for Linux though - you can just set up a Samba share on the VM and/or the host for file transfers. VMware Server also supports USB redirection - you can read USB drives from the guest OS.

673358 2008-05-28 10:37:00 or try www.virtualbox.org - also free. I have it running under PCLOS with Ubuntu installed. johnd (85)
