673255 2008-05-28 07:26:00 Unplug everything except MB, RAM and CPU. Now power up - anything? If not suspect the board.

If it does, suspect the PSU. Or a dead drive.
Makes no difference how old it is.

What are the specs of all this stuff anyway, inc the PSU - like how many amps on the 12v?

PSU is a icute 400w, @+12v gives out 18A

System Specs:
P4 3.06 HT (not sure the actual processor model)
2GB DDR RAM in 2 slots
200GB Seagate HDD
Liteon DVD +/-RW DL
256MB ATi Radeon 9600

All that previous worked on a lower PSU

673256 2008-05-28 08:22:00 Cheap PSUs + Cheap ECS motherboard = what did you think would happen?

Sorry, just had to say that - sounds like it's either the PSU or the board, but if you just got a new PSU then it's probably the board (suspicions raised when you said the CPU fan didn't start)

Funny enough I saw this same thing on a chaintech board: powered on but CPU fan wouldn't spin and PC didn't start, after much fussing about I eventually pulled the BIOS chip and reprogrammed it - and it worked fine after that....

Maybe not.. have you tried what pctek said?

If it is the board then it should be easy to get a replacement (probably have to go to trademe) and then you should be fine - though I would still upgrade to a decent brand name PSU as well...
