There are serious limitations (ie. no backup power, slow connection speeds etc.) when you host a site on your own computer, and web hosting is so cheap these days it really isn't worth the trouble. For hosting check out TJR Networks (www.tjrnetworks.com) or Myacen (http:). To learn how to code I'd recommend checking out HTML Dog (http://www.htmldog.com), or download a trial version of Dreamweaver or GoLive if you don't want to hand code your site. :) |

Not to mention your ISP will ususally throw a hissy fit if you host one without using an expensive buisness plan, and datacaps really do get in the way |

As for making a website, you could use something like freewebs.com, but your not really learning anything about how to make a website from using these free services. I recommend buying or download a trail version of dreamweaver and just mess about with it, you will soon get the hang of it. That's how I learned to make websites, I have never had any lessons, I just messed about with dreamweaver alot :D | Adam678 (6880) | ||
| 397236 | 2005-10-18 15:06:00 | With free sites you get what you pay for.... no indexing in search engines, therefore few people find it and it just languishes on the net. Not quite true. Do a search for virtually any subject and a lot of free sites come up. Particularly image searches. But anyway, you wouldn't host a commercial site on a free server, so what does it matter if no-one reaches it. I reckon it's a great way to start. |

| 397237 | 2005-10-18 15:24:00 | Rob I think he was asking where to put one up, not how to make a site. Free hosting is really good at Portland (http://www.portland.co.uk/). Sorry everyone. Wat I meant was to put up a site like Greg sed. ^_^ Thnx everyone anyways. PS.Of course I wont actually make one. |
