There are pros and cons to everything, smokers have weighed these up and decided the pros outweigh the cons.

397148 2005-10-17 18:26:00 Granted Im going to die one day, I want to die because Ive done something stupid of my own accord, not because Ive been killed from 2nd-hand smoke.

I'd rather die from Base Jumping than live a life hindered due to the effects of others smoking come to think of it...

However, each to their own, live and let live, circle of life and whatnot.
Oh please. Its gets blamed for everything. Find me some actual proven studies that show this to be the case.
Not the one the EPA faked without any proof and everyone now uses as the antismoking bible.
And objecting to someone smoking outside in the open air is pathetic. You don't like it, don't stand so bloody close.

397149 2005-10-17 18:38:00 If you feel you must have a "right to smoke", we also must have a "right to clean air". Just because you impulsively suck on those foul sticks all day dosen't mean the rest of us have to suffer. Do it in your home where noone cares Edward (31)
397150 2005-10-17 18:47:00 The car you drive probably emits more carbon monoxide and other 'life threatening chemicals' into the air in a second than someone standing outside having a smoke. I suggest we ban cars from being driven near walkways as well... or even on roadways.

Smoking is a personal choice and I find most smokers are considerate... hell, they have little choice with all the religious zealots around.

Same can be said for you. If you want clean air stay at your house.

I don't smoke, never have. Well I tried it once but didn't like it. The smoking laws now are entirely stupid though and most non-smokers I know would prefer the laws to be back how they were.

397152 2005-10-17 19:24:00 The views of a former smoker (smoked for 10+ years, gave up last year, haven't missed it)...

Leave the smokers alone ***. I disagree with the public bar laws, and think that now to have someone whinge they are smoking too close to a public walkway is a bit over the top.

There are certain times one just has to shut up, for instance in a perfect world, noone would smoke. But this isn't a perfect world, and I can't just bowl into a mates place and tell them not to smoke just coz I'm there, or my kids with me. Its up to them.

Live and let live... the onus is on the smoker to be considerate, not on the non-smoker to make draconian laws
