673908 2008-05-30 07:58:00 Hello

When you search in google, you sometimes find that what you searched for is not in fact on the page. Then you find that it's in the cached page.

Is there a way to only tell google to retrieve pages that currently contain the search term (not stale ones)?

TIA

TIAWhat you ask is impossible - Google works on a massive index of stored pages, which it updates periodically. The closest you can get is the last time Google updated its cache. How often these updates occur depend on the site in question.

I think web designers can put in their website code, to tell google not to cache their website. Google also only indexes web pages periodically, so it is not a realtime search engine in most cases.

673912 2008-05-30 11:21:00 I think web designers can put in their website code, to tell google not to cache their website...This is correct (robots.txt), however note that if you tell Google not to index something, it won't appear in search results. Google cannot search sites in realtime. Erayd (23)
673913 2008-05-30 12:34:00 Bletch is right. If Google indexed sites and searched them in real time, you could get the most upto date search results but could never actually access the website because its server would be under max load.

You could always filter your search results by date so say only content added within a certain period like between last week and today. Look on Google (:D) for tips on how to do this.

I will try the date range thing.

673915 2008-05-31 05:12:00 I have seen some of my sites/blogs still listed after a Google search several weeks after I have unpublished/removed them. Apparently Google indexes the internet about once a month, so any sites removed or moved to another domain/host, hidden, etc, will still have it's URL indexed at least a month later...

There are many google operator tricks to enforce specific search results at google guide com and I think lifehacker com...
