673624 2008-05-29 03:17:00 I have a HP LaserJet 1200 printer connected to one of the PC's on my small network of 5 PC's. If the PC that the printer is connected too is turned off, I cannot access the printer.
The printer has only a parallel connector - no USB connection.
Is there a way I can connect the printer to the hub, which would allow all the PC ‘s on the network to be able to prnt.

673625 2008-05-29 03:52:00 You'll have to get a print server, if you want to print, if the printer thats connected to the main pc is turned off.

Just go into printers and share the printer. Then on the other PC's, go to printers and search for the printer, add it then they should be able to print to it.

673626 2008-05-29 05:17:00 Since a modern Print Server will probably have a USB connection grab an adapter cable for it. Dick Smith have them normally.
I use a Linksys print server but Netgear also have them from memory.

673629 2008-05-29 20:06:00 If you update your printer at some stage which is likely since yours must be old if it is not USB, then the new printer would be usb.

If you get a print server then go with a modern one and get an LPT to USB adapter cable. I ran my HP Laser Printer with LPT-USB adapter through my print server for a while.

Now all my 4 printers are USB, one of them is Dual USB so it is connected to both the main PC and the Print server.

673631 2008-05-29 23:21:00 4 printers Bantu?!

Yea. Laser Printer. Kodak Photo Printer, Epson R800 and Epson R1900
Laser printer cheaper to run for B/W A4 stuff.
Photo Printer does good long lasting photos.
R800 for day to day stuff
R1900 for A3+ and long prints on a paper roll.

Probably spend about $300+ a month on Ink alone.
