| 673326 | 2008-05-28 01:24:00 | My friend has a legit retail Vista RTM disc (Home Premium Academic Upgrade). AFAIK, he installs RTM, goes to Windows Update and gets SP1. He downloads it successfully, but it fails to completely install, resulting in a damaged installation. I have made him a copy of my own legit Vista disc with SP1 integrated for him to install with his license code. Will he be able to install Vista+SP1 from my disc with his RTM Vista key? If not, what can be done to help him install Vista with SP1? :thanks |

| 673329 | 2008-05-28 02:22:00 | I have installed a Upgrade Via A slipstreamed SP1 RTM from my own machines Once, worked OK. (may have been a flke I dont know) just try and see, you will load the Vista DVD, it goes through the process (doesnt alter any thing) then when you put in the product key its either going to work or wont. The other way is to get your mates Vista Upgrade and slipstream SP1 into that. |

That's kinda beside the point Kevin. I'm asking whether I can upgrade to Vista RTM using a RTM key and SP1 disc and whether the SP1 disc will accept the RTM key :) Sorry if it wasn't clear! |

When ever I'm building New Vista PC's I have Vista SP1 Slipstreamed into DVD's I make with Vlite, then simply use the COA on the OEM DVD that I get for the customer, the original DVD is still unopened. |

| 673333 | 2008-05-29 09:54:00 | I posted a query on this a couple of months ago. I've got Vista Ultimate obtained from Microsoft directly. I'm able to download SP1 manually with no trouble but it gets to 99% installed then wiill not complete the installation. I've removed my firewall, virus programmes etc but with no success. I've emailed Microsoft but never received a reply. Wainuitech gave me great help trying to resolve this problem with no success but it sure wasn't as a result of him not trying for which I am extremely grateful for his time and effort expended on it. I think I've now resigned myself to doing without SP1 - so far life and civilisation as I know it hasn't ground to halt! |
