| 396011 | 2005-10-14 05:24:00 | What do we have the we should be really excited about? and what do we have to look forward to? I recently saw a preview of what the next DirectX version would be like in the form of a clip in a totally visually revamped and interactive version of Far Cry. From the looks of that clip, and what my setup atm shows me it's capable of doing in 3DMark2005, I come to the conclusion that one or more of my components is quite obsolete. I'm not without the knowledge that these programs are quite difficult to obtain a high score on if you're on a budget system, but not too long ago my PC was quite robust. What PC components are playing catchup in the performance department? Have we yet to unlock the full potential of our graphics cards because our processors simply can't think fast enough to achieve near infinite detail? Or are we stuck behind the graphics cards somewhat limited ability to produce high quaility detail? (somehow the latter scenario don't add up, based on what I'm seeing from the supercards.) Ya, so what are your views on this and anything else stirring around in your mind? :2cents: |

| 396012 | 2005-10-14 06:20:00 | Most of the new stuff out is to eliminate bottlenecks, not just more of the faster, bigger scenario. There may also be physics cards - google physx to see details. Dual-core cpus, soon to be quad-core. PCI-Express and its next iterations. Eliminating the bottleneck of your hard drive - being one of the few mechanical devices left. PCI to be replace by PCI x1 and x4 now. And thats normal that a short time ago your PC was the latest cool thing is now a dinosaur. Theres variuos fairly recent threads on here already discussing a lot of it... |

What stood out the most to me were the motherboard and processor of choice. Motherboard: www.tomshardware.com Processor: www.tomshardware.com Even though some of you may not find much meaning in this I know at least one or two people who will. |
