2008-06-01 02:07:00 | Hi there, Is there anyone out there who knows how to get my wireless network portion on my Acer with VISTA OS virtually brand new laptop to work? I am able to use the network cable. It used to work as it was origonally set up from the wireless network but after a re boot I got a message to say there was no driver for the Network controller. I have been to Acer web sites and downloaded drivers but each time I either get a message that windows cant open the file or I get another box to say wait.................... until it just disappears. I have even downloaded Driver detective and it finds it and but only has a message board to do excatly what I am doing here and have not recieved a reply yet. I have also tried to install the files from device manager and direct it to where my downloaded files are kept. I have also tried to roll back using system restore but maybe should have done that earlier as the restore points do not go far enough back now. Any help would be appreciated as I have only had it for 6 weeks and 5 weeks with no problem. Gordon:wub | Gordon_P (12244) | |

2008-06-01 11:09:00 | No it does not recognise the driver. My son who knows a lot more than me has tried all sorts of things to get it recognised but he has given up too now.. I take it you dont like acer computers..... | Gordon_P (12244) | |

No I don't, They have a too high incidence of hardware failures - probably because they use cheap nasty components.. |

2008-06-03 07:51:00 | Hi there pctek, Thanks for your help too I thought it would be quite a simple thing to install but nothing seems to work and the advice you are giving also suggests that. So would it be the network controller be at fault? which would make it a hardware problem? thanks again for your help | Gordon_P (12244) | |
2008-06-03 08:13:00 | I doubt this is the issue but is the wireless turned on? Normally there is a small switch to turn wireless on and off. When off it saves battery power. I have had calls from people saying their wireless isn't working and they have unknownly switched of the wireless. Flick the sliding switch and all go again. Just a thought.
